Coming Soon. The season in review

But on the other hand, what's there to say? We'll see.

A brief mid-season statement from the coach

Our pre-season has largely been a "drink-to-forget" ceremony, repeated often over the summer months. We have drunk and forgot. We have obliterated the memory of things past. Such as how to play football.
But as our seasons journey wends forward we near a corner that we shall turn. We will see ahead a long, hard road leading to the opening of a tunnel. Inside that tunnel there shines a light. At first it will seem faint and distant as if it must lie at the end ... of the tunnel. But we will emerge into that light and behold a path, and as we take our first steps along that path – the season will have passed. We will have moved to the state of priority draft pick, (da'pick*) that will enlighten our way to the next corner, which we will turn...

(*Auspicious numbers for da'pick are 87, 45 and 56. Colours: wild beige and warm cheese. Comet sightings forecast on draft day.)

***** STOP PRESS *****

The Pies were back! Not quite in town, but definitely in the outer suburbs and thinking about a mortgage. But after their magnificent hat-trick - against relegation rivals Adelaide and North; and a supremely moderate win against the Dome-o-phobic Weagles, the Pies have settled back to the comfort zone of finals-avoidance. A tendency reinforced by the certainty of Brisbane being there.

The above is achieved by playing half games, with glimpses of good form sandwiched between routinely banal first and last quarters. It's now time for the spirit of '58 to be invoked and I can say no more than that. The beast must be slain.

Postscript

Well, we all know what happened, so the next important season on the Pie calendar is definitely trading season.

Dramatic colour shift

The new milder strip for better karma - mustard lite and tofu - could guarantee a mid-table finish for Collingwood in 2004. Merchandising to include team cardigans.
